Mass Communication Department of Crescent University, Abeokuta has received special meritorious award from Muslims Speak newspaper.
The award, according to the publisher, Engr. Ahmed Sambo, was in recognition of the department’s meritorious service, positive contributions to manpower development, breeding professionals and growth of Islam.
The award was received by Dr. Jamiu Folarin and Dr. Oluwatoyin Shakirat Salami on behalf of the Head of Department, Dr. Kola Adesina, at a ceremony held on 1st December 2024 at Secretariat Mosque, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
The head of Tijanniya in Ogun State, Fadhilatu Sheikh Salis Alao Adenekan who presented the award to the department urged it to rest in its oars in contributing to the spread of Islam.
The book titled: “Iwe Itan Islam ti Ilu Abeokuta” documented the 200 years history of Islam from 1824 to 2024,
While reviewing the book, the representative of Olowu of Owu kingdom, Prof. Saka Matemilola lauded the author of the book and publisher of Muslims Speak for contributing to the documentation of the history of Islam and contributions to civilisation.
Earlier in his lecture, the representative of the Senior Missioner of NASFAT, Fadhilaltu Sheikh Hamed Olowo called on Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the service of Allah and humanity.
Sheikh Olowo asked Muslims and Non-Muslims, leaders and followers to follow the injunction of Allah to change what is in their mind if they want Allah to change their situation and that of the country to better.
His his own lecture, O/C, General Invedstigation, SCID, Abeokuta, SP. Abimbola Oyeyemi, detailed how the country has nosedived in terms of development over the year.
SP Oyeyemi explained that previous administrations had repeatedly failed to take decisive action to tackle the challenges confronting Nigeria.
He said the effort of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle the challenge headlong has resulted in suffering which Nigeria should endure in order to be adequately healed from the economic, security and social problems confronting the nation.
Dignitaries who attended the event include Chief Imam of Egbaland, Saadalah Bamgbola, Fadhilaltu Sheikh Hamed Olowo, Senior Missioner NASFAT; SP. Abimbola Oyeyemi, O/C, General Invedstigation, SCID, Abeokuta; Hon. Lanre Jaji, Speaker of the People Parliament; Imam Talia Yunus, Chief Imam of Ogbomosho among others.
