The Proprietor of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Prince Mahruf Adesegun Ajibola (SAN), has urged the newly admitted 670 students of the institution to honour the sacredness of their Matriculation Oath and uphold the values of the institution.
Prince Ajibola gave this advice during the 20th Matriculation Ceremony of the university held at the Bola Ajibola Auditorium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to admit new students into various programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
While emphasizing the significance of the oath and cautioning students against violating it, the proprietor reiterated the importance of integrity and discipline in their academic and personal lives.
“The oath you took today is a sacred act. If you depart from it, there are consequences. Allah favours those who honour their promises and remain steadfast on the right path,” he stated.
Prince Ajibola also expressed pride in officiating his first matriculation ceremony as the institution’s proprietor, a role he assumed recently, following the legacy of the founder, the late Prince Bola Ajibola.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, highlighted a shift in the gender composition of the student body.
He observed that, over the past two decades, the ratio of male to female students has reversed in favour of females, a contrast to the 70% male dominance recorded during the university’s early years.
The Vice Chancellor explained that when he joined the University 10 years ago, he recalled the late Bola Ajibola saying that he look forward to a today when the ratio of males to females intake will be ratio 50:50.
Professor Gbajabiamila also noted that female students have consistently outperformed their male counterparts academically, with most first-class graduates in the past 15 years being women.
While also asking the parents to caution the male students against act that will keep them below average in academic performance, the Vice Chancellor said the University observed that female students are more dedicated and studious to their studies than their male counterparts.
He urged parents to focus equally on the moral and academic upbringing of their male children, stressing the need for discipline and dedication among all students.
