Crescent University has unveiled a N500 million proposed medical laboratory centre donated by the Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Africa Initiative.

 The Proprietor, Prince Muhammed Maruf Adesegun Ajibola, SAN, led the management of the university and top officials of the ASR Africa initiative to the groundbreaking ceremony. 

In his welcoming address, Prince Ajibola commended the ASR Africa initiative for the donation stating that students would be the biggest beneficiaries of the gesture.

He urged wealthy Nigerians to emulate Abdul Samad Rabiu who came all the way from Kano to partner with the University to improve the quality of education, adding that the Kano State government recently initiated a scholarship scheme enabling students from the state to study Master’s degree programmes in the University.

“This gathering is beyond an event, stating, it is a significant partnership from a notable figure in Kano that has contributed immensely to the growth of the University”, Ajibola submitted.

In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Gbajabiamila, said the decision of Abdul Samad Rabiu to build a laboratory for the university is in fulfilment of his promise made on 26th October, 2013.

Prof. Gbajabiamila expressed optimism that the intervention would contribute to academic and manpower development of the university. 

The Vice Chancellor added that the University’s nursing programme achieved a 100% pass rate in external examinations of the Nursing council, making the school among the front-line universities in the country.

The Founder of the ASR Initiative, AbdulSamad Rabiu ably represented by the Managing Director, Mr. Ubon Udoh, commended the management for its  ability to attract support and investments, showcasing effective leadership which contributed to its educational offering.

He said: “The foundation committed $100 million annually for health, education, and social development across Africa. The  Tertiary Education Grant Scheme provides financial support to deserving institutions in Nigeria, with grants ranging from 250 million naira to 1 billion naira. Thirty universities have benefited from this grant, with six receiving 1 billion naira each and others receiving varying amounts.”

“The selection criteria for grant beneficiaries include university rankings, management vision, and the quality of students produced. Crescent University received multiple grants from various philanthropies, indicating strong leadership and growth. The project has a completion timeline of six months, with a carefully selected contractor expected to deliver quality work.”

In his remarks while touring the University’s facilities, Mr. Udoh acknowledged the effort of the management, charging the institution to utilize the facility provided in the best possible way.

The Registrar, Crescent University, Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola while giving his closing remarks, assured the ASR initiative that the facility is a great addition that would catalyze significant development in upgrading the nursing program in the University.
