Claim: The Senator representing Delta North senatorial district is set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Verdict: True
Full text:
Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North senatorial district, has confirmed his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This move, if completed, will result in all three senators from Delta State being members of the APC, as the senators from Delta Central and Delta South won their seats on the APC platform in the 2023 elections.
Nwoko’s relationship with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the governor’s predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been strained due to alleged marginalization of Nwoko and his constituency. Okowa, who was the PDP vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is reportedly eyeing Nwoko’s Delta North senatorial seat for the 2027 election.
Verification:
We Verified the claim In an interview conducted by Arise News TV during the Newsnight Programme with Honorable Gloria Okolugbo who is a representative of Delta North Senator, she disclosed that Ned Nwoko is set to defect to APC. She also explained that on January 19th, 2025, Ned Nwoko had a consultative meeting with his constituents to inform them of his interest to defect from PDP.
Also, we verified the claim from the NIM online TV where Ned Nwoko was saying that he’s going to APC where they’ll help him get things done.
Conclusion:
It has been confirmed that Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North, is set to defect from the PDP to the APC. This was disclosed by Honorable Gloria Okolugbo in an interview with Arise News TV and further corroborated by NIM online TV, where Nwoko himself expressed his intentions to join the APC to better achieve his objectives.
