It is a serious and insidious problem for not having street lights at the areas of where humans life are important. Even a community without proper protection, is like building a house without cover the roof. It will endanger people’s lives.
Suliat Idowu said it was so pathetic for the lack of street lights in our community. That, a situation whereby kidnapping is rampant in the country. Government needs to come up with a solution by providing street lights to the community where darkness has been overcome. Especially at Ipokia local government of Ogun State. Their communities to be precise.
She mentioned. It was an unbelievable scene on the day I experienced the consequences of not having street lights in our area. It was a situation whereby a bike man hit one boy in our community by failing to fix light to his bike and darkness also covered the place that day. Although there are some areas that have street lights , frankly speaking, we are thirsty for street lights in our community.
However, the youths have collided together to produce one or two street lights to each community in order to prevent the crisis. So, with the success of their efforts, Senator Ademola Solomon (YAYI) has notified the youths to help their community out from the issue of street lights .
According to the chairman of the local government, Hon. Agbetokun Wasiu. He said, YAYI has provided a minimum of 142 street lights to the community, it’s not just ordinary street lights. It comes with solar which can be working without electricity supply called “auto clean”, with the working time 8 to 10 hours per day, 3 days back up with 3 years of guarantee.
He moved forward and said, with the statistics of distribution. Each community under the Ipokia local government is stationed with 20 solar street lights where dangerous things can occur and darkness is overcome. Out of 5 to 6 communities, Araromi Onfo community is the most community that was stationed with 32 solar street lights due to some dangerous things that is happening there. The rest community have the remaining 110 of solar street lights. Like, Idiroko with 20 solar street lights, Ibatefin 20, Ajegunle, and Ilase 20 while Ipokia as whole a got the remain 30.
Though, the availability of street lights that was given doesn’t have the high capability to protect all the communities due to the number of street lights that were provided. And the communities are very large in number, so the street lights won’t be able to cover it all.
Even in terms of lifespan, it has limitations of working. It will only work for a minimum of 1 year with the guarantee that was stated for 4 years.
The government ought to be considerate to look at the sides of the issue and provide at least 150 street lights adding to what YAYI has done in order to reduce the rate of kidnapping, having an accident, etc. It will be a better contribution to the community.
