Adeboye Khadijat a crescent University student went to the school clinic for fever but due to the absence of doctor at that moment, they couldn’t carry out any test on her and she was given some drug but the drugs did not work and she has to go home inorder to see a doctor for better prescription.
Olaiya Shakirat said “They are really working and they were active but the last time I went there for malaria, they gave me parietal because there was not availability of malaria drug and also the doctor was not around at that time and I use almost 2hours there due to large number of patient but the working staff are not much.
There is a resident doctor within the school vicinity ,after the normal shift of the doctors are over, the resident doctor is always available. There is no doctor on sit for 24 hours but there is doctor at the university 24hours a day. Any emergencies that the nurses cannot handle, the resident doctor will be call to handle it. And at times most student comes to school with their drugs.
According to Dr olayemi, a female doctor at the school clinic, she said the management does not spend less than five million for drugs every year ,they have done everything possible to make sure we are taking care of you. The sources of our drug is FTIR, a very standard pharmaceutical company .At times the history a student give us will determine our line of treatment, at times student will say they need velvin for menstrual pain and it will be given to them, some will say they need cough syrup and it will be provided for them which is not ethical but since this is a private settings, the management has made us understand that the students are our main priority, and we should always give them whatever they want. The instrument we have here is more than enough for a clinic because it is not a hospital, what we give student here is not only first aid. If a medical test is carried out on a sickle cell patient that has ECV, the student will be referred to a hospital because there is no blood bank here and no clinic have blood bank. New ambulance has been provided and there are different equipment inside like oxygen, defibrillators, oxygen cylinders, a stretcher, monitoring equipment, first aid kit and wheelchair. There is more than enough qualified personnel, there is 10 registered nurses at the clinic,we have 2 full times doctors and four doctors are working here in total.
Residential doctor around the school premises is good, so far the doctor resident is not far from the clinic but in a situation whereby the doctor need to walk for 15 to 20 minutes before reaching the clinic Incase of emergency it can lead to big harm and it can cost a life. Doctors should always be on sit 24 hours a day because of emergency. Self administration of drug among the student should not be allow,it can cause overdose and underdose which can lead to treatment failure.
As a private institutes, clinic does not suit this type of institutes rather a hospital .Hospital needs to be built for proper working condition and enough equipment should be available to avoid transferring student to another hospital outside the school. If the School can build a hospital for the students with enough equipment it will be good for the students and the school itself.
