CLAIM: A viral Whatsapp video gave a statement of the presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he says students will graduate from school after 8 years.

My findings show presidential aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the students will graduate from school after 8 years, if not they should call him bastard.

FULL TEXT

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu, has committed yet another public blunder, while promising that Nigerian students will spend eight years for their tertiary education if he is elected as the country’s president in the forthcoming elections.

The former Lagos State Governor stated this at the APC presidential rally in Osogbo on Thursday, February 2, 2023, telling students to call him a bastard if he didn’t fulfil his promise.

In Nigeria, the average undergraduate program in a Nigerian university lasts four years, excluding strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“Call me a bastard if you spend more than eight years in higher institution. You will spend eight years in school”, Tinubu said in Yoruba language.

This gaffe is one of several reasons why many Nigerians have expressed concerns about Tinubu’s health and mental fitness to lead a country of over 200 million people.

Meanwhile, the camp of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar had recently said that the “constant gaffes” of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Bola Tinubu were embarrassing.

The opposition party said in Tinubu’s rally in Akwa Ibom, the APC flag bearer goofed about calling Atiku a Senate President though his opponent never contested any legislative election.

Shaibu pointed out that the former Lagos governor’s gaffes and blunders are “effects of his failing health,” posing a threat to national security.

The aide recalled Tinubu’s remarks about recruiting 50 million youths into the Army to solve the unemployment problem, as well as his advice to Nigerians to renew their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before they expired.

The Atiku camp said such errors at meetings with world leaders would negatively affect Nigeria’s image because “the Bola Tinubu who served as governor is different now”.

A user named mufasatundeednut noted that “8 years?”

A YouTuber @mystorytv also posted the video but he tried to explain what Tinubu meant by 8 years saying he was trying to say 4years , that all the students will graduate at exactly 4 years that there won’t be strike or anything that will stop them from graduating at exactly 4 years.

VERIFICATION

I searched and found the original video shared on YouTube @mystory Tv where the YouTuber said he was trying to  what Tinubu meant by 8 years saying he was trying to say 4years , that all the students will graduate at exactly 4 years that there won’t be strike or anything that will stop them from graduating at exactly 4 years.

Watching the 1 minute  9 seconds video, I observed that around  20seconds into the video, Bola Tinubu said   ” they should call him bastard if they stay more than 8 years in school. But later the video explained what he was trying to say.  But that’s his own opinion

CONCLUSION

Our findings show the claim that presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu said the students will graduate from school after 8 years.
