Generally , the health care system
in Nigeria is not good, because we
see many people dying today as a
result of not having access to health
care facilities especially in the rural
areas . The situation is virtually the
same in the urban cities where the
meager take home of most
Nigerians is making it difficult for
them to patronize government
hospitals because the money to do
all the prescribed laboratory tests
and purchase of drugs is not there.
That is why today, many Nigerians
engage in self medication. I will
strongly advise governments at all
levels to pump more funds into the
health sector because it is only when
the people are healthy that they can
be productive.
ORIM ARUKNEH
The Health care system in Nigeria is
really poor. I have cause to visit a
tertiary health institution in this sate
last year, I must confess to you that
for a long period of time, I was
virtually neglected with no one
attending to me in spite of the fact that I came from a distance to get to
that hospital. It is that really bad. The
drugs are kind of affordable, but the
system in most of our hospitals are
bad. Although some of the personnel
are friendly enough. For instance the
Consultant that attended to me was a
nice gentleman , very cautious and
professional . At another time the
Nurses were rude in their approach. I
wish to urge the government and
authorities concerned to do
something about this trend.
ADEOLU TOBILOBA
In Nigeria, we still have a long way
to go in terms of our health care
services. Most times the drugs
Doctors prescribed are not available
in the hospital and in cases where
they are available, the cost are not
affordable. The National Health
Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a step
in the right direction. But how many
Nigerians are captured in that
scheme. The government should
extend the scheme to the masses
who are not government workers,
because to me , that is the only way
the scheme could be reasonable to
all Nigerians.
DESIRE FEMI CHANGE
If you ask me, I will give Nigeria
health system 8%. It is that bad. I
flew from overseas late last year to
attend to the failing health of my dad
whom we brought to a supposed
standard health facility in Ogun
State. I must confess, the health
services here are not anything to
write home about if you compare
them with what is obtainable outside
the Country. To get the attention of
Doctors here is a big problem, the Nurses are rude, electricity is
erratic, the facilities are obsolete in
situation where they are available.
To be candid , the whole system
need a total overhauling.
SHODE OLADIMEJI
I still think we can do more because
there is a lot of interference in the
National Health Insurance Scheme.
The government should put some
privacy into the scheme. It is
saddening to note that NHIS
patients were being treated like
common patients. If I have a
choice, I will settle for a private
hospital than a government hospital.
GIDEON OGUNTOLA
I have been to government tertiary
hospitals in Ogun State in the 2018
that just ended about 4 times. I will
rate the Nigerian health facility
50% out of 100.The Doctors and
Nurses and other cadres of health
workers are doing their best but
they are not enough in number. I
have observed that there are lesser hands taking care many patients. To
be specific, I have visited Ogun state
general Hospital, Ijaye and Federal. Medical Centre, Abeokuta, the
obvious thing I noticed in the two
institutions was shortage of
manpower. In the new year, the
government should try and improve on this area.
