Political Science Crowned Champions of the 2026 CASMAS Dean’s Cup at crescent university Abeokuta

    The 2026 CASMAS Dean’s Cup at Crescent University, Abeokuta, delivered two weeks of
    thrilling football, unforgettable moments, and remarkable displays of sportsmanship as
    six departments within the College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences (CASMAS)
    battled for supremacy. The competition, which commenced on Tuesday, 9 June if 2026,
    brought together students, lecturers, and football enthusiasts in a celebration of unity,
    talent, and healthy rivalry.
    The participating departments were Islamic Studies, Business Administration, Mass
    Communication, Accounting, Economics, and Political Science. Throughout the
    tournament, each team demonstrated determination and resilience, while supporters filled
    the sidelines with chants and encouragement, creating an exciting atmosphere on campus.
    First-Leg Fixtures
    The tournament opened with an impressive performance from the Department of Political
    Science, who defeated Economics 4–1 on 9 June to establish themselves as early
    favourites for the title.
    On 10 June, Mass Communication secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Business
    Administration in a fiercely contested encounter that showcased both teams’ attacking
    quality and determination.
    The final first-leg fixture between Islamic Studies and Accounting ended in a 1–1 draw.
    Islamic Studies produced one of the tournament’s most spirited performances and looked
    set for victory before conceding a late equaliser to Accounting, leaving everything to play
    for in the return leg.
    Second-Leg Drama
    The second-leg matches began on Friday, 12 June, with teams fighting to secure places in
    the semi-finals.
    Political Science completed a dominant performance over Economics, finishing with anemphatic 7–1 aggregate victory to comfortably book their place in the last four.

Mass Communication maintained their advantage over Business Administration,

progressing with a 4–2 aggregate score after another disciplined performance.

Accounting also secured qualification by defeating Islamic Studies 3–1 on aggregate,

ending the hopes of a determined Islamic Studies side whose performances throughout

the competition earned widespread admiration.

Although Business Administration were eliminated by Mass Communication, they

progressed as the tournament’s best losers, having recorded a superior overall goal tally

compared with the other eliminated teams. This unexpected opportunity would eventually

become one of the biggest stories of the tournament.

Throughout the competition, lecturers from the various departments stood proudly behind

their teams, while students turned every fixture into a lively spectacle with songs, cheers,

and unwavering support. Their presence reflected the unity and vibrant sporting culture

within CASMAS.

Semi-Finals

The semi-finals commenced on Monday, 15 June, producing two entertaining fixtures.

Political Science continued their impressive run by defeating Mass Communication 3–1,

displaying composure, tactical discipline, and clinical finishing to secure the first place in

the final.

In the second semi-final, Business Administration produced a stunning performance

against Accounting, recording a convincing 5–1 victory to complete one of the

tournament’s most remarkable comeback stories.

Business Administration’s journey to the final was nothing short of extraordinary. Having

progressed as the tournament’s best losers, many believed their campaign would end

early. Instead, they capitalised on their second chance, overcoming every obstacle to earn place in the championship match.
The Grand Finale

 

The much-anticipated final of the 2026 CASMAS Dean’s Cup took place on 25 June 2026,
with Political Science and Business Administration battling for the prestigious trophy.
Both finalists entered the pitch full of confidence, determination, and belief. The
atmosphere around the football field reflected the significance of the occasion as
students, lecturers, and supporters gathered to witness the climax of an unforgettable
tournament.
When the final whistle was blown, it was the Department of Political Science that emerged
victorious with a 3–1 win over Business Administration.
The triumph crowned a tournament in which Political Science consistently demonstrated
quality, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Their outstanding performances from the
opening match through to the final deservedly earned them the title of 2026 CASMAS
Dean’s Cup Champions.
The celebrations that followed were filled with excitement as players, lecturers, and
supporters rejoiced together, proud of their department’s remarkable achievement. The
victory was not only a testament to the players’ commitment but also to the unwavering
support they received from their academic staff and fellow students throughout the
competition.
Alhamdulillahi, the tournament concluded successfully, leaving behind lasting memories
of exciting football, healthy competition, and strengthened friendships across
departments. Beyond the trophy, the CASMAS Dean’s Cup once again demonstrated that
sport remains a powerful instrument for promoting unity, leadership, discipline, and
community spirit within Crescent University, Abeokuta.
