Team Obsidian from the University of Lagos emerged as the overall winner of the Nigeria Association of Computing Students (NACOS), Crescent University Abeokuta (CUAB) Hackathon, claiming the ₦450,000 grand prize after presenting Everikobo, an AI-powered financial solution for informal traders. The hackathon brought together student innovators to develop technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges in education, finance, business verification, campus administration, and public safety.

The programme commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an opening address by the Dean of the College of Information and Communication Technology (CICOT), Dr. Maruf Oyelakin, who officially declared the competition open. Judges, lecturers, and students were in attendance throughout the event.

Although 12 teams registered for the competition, eight teams advanced to the presentation stage. The participating teams were Code Titans, The Paperless Crew, Lighthouse, CelpenPencel, Obsidian, Helmi, Team Zazzz, and Dev Kids.

Teams showcased creative and impactful projects, including EduDNA AI, an educational platform that predicts students’ learning challenges; E-Exeat, a digital system for seamless student exeat applications; Reunite AI, a platform that uses AI to assist in locating missing persons; VeriGate, a business verification solution for detecting fraudulent vendors; and EveriKobo, an AI-powered bookkeeping solution that helps informal traders build verified financial identities and access financing.

Participants collaborate as they develop and refine their projects during the hackathon.

After the project presentations, organizers engaged the audience with an interactive quiz session. The programme later paused briefly for prayer before reconvening for the announcement of the results.

The results were announced by Software Director, Elegbede Hamzat. Team Obsidian from the University of Lagos emerged as the overall winner and received the ₦450,000 grand prize. Team Helmi of Crescent University Abeokuta secured second place with ₦300,000, while The Paperless Crew, also representing Crescent University, secured third place and received ₦200,000.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Maruf Oyelakin, who commended participants for their creativity and encouraged them to continue building solutions that can make a positive impact in society. Refreshments were served to participants and guests, bringing a successful end to the hackathon.
