For many female students at Crescent University, the hostel is more than just a place to sleep. It is where they study, rest, and spend most of their time outside the classroom. While the hostel provides accommodation for students, some residents believe there are areas that need improvement to make the environment more comfortable and conducive for learning.
One of the concerns raised by residents is the condition of the hostel surroundings. According to some students, the bushes around the hostel were left overgrown for a long time before they were eventually cleared. They said the delayed maintenance made the environment look untidy and raised concerns about safety and hygiene. Although the grass has now been cut, some students said they hope the surroundings will be maintained regularly to prevent the same issue from occurring again.

Another concern mentioned by residents is water supply. Some students explained that water is not always available when needed, making it difficult to carry out daily activities. They added that there should always be water in the toilets so that students can flush after use and maintain proper hygiene.

The condition of some bathrooms also came up during discussions with residents. According to them, some bathroom facilities require maintenance, and they believe better upkeep would improve comfort and sanitation. A few students also mentioned that mosquitoes are common around the
hostel, and some expressed concerns that overgrown surroundings could attract unwanted animals.

Some residents also questioned the practice of restricting access to the hostel during examination periods. They explained that students often need a quiet and comfortable place to study and prepare for exams. Others said that unpleasant odours and mosquitoes sometimes make studying in the hostel difficult. Students also noted that repairs to damaged facilities sometimes take longer than expected. They expressed hope that maintenance requests would be attended to more quickly whenever issues are reported. To support this report, photographs of the hostel environment, water facilities, bathrooms, and surrounding areas were taken as part of the observations.

Residents suggested several improvements, including a more consistent water supply, better maintenance of bathrooms and toilets, stable Wi-Fi to support academic work, improved security through better lighting and CCTV cameras, and regular environmental sanitation. Some students also said they enrolled at the university expecting a conducive learning environment and hope that continuous improvements to the hostel facilities will help meet those expectations. Overall, residents acknowledged that the hostel provides accommodation for students but believe that continued improvements in maintenance and facilities would make campus life more comfortable, safer, and more supportive of academic success.
