Students of Crescent University continue to rely on Campus Connect, the institution’s wireless internet service, for academic and personal activities despite growing concerns over its reliability.
‎
‎Previously known as Hostel Connect, the service was limited to student hostels. It has since been upgraded and renamed Campus Connect, allowing users to access the internet from different locations across the university campus.
‎
‎The service operates daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and is available to all members of the university community with valid identification, including students, lecturers, and non-teaching staff. Students pay an additional ₦35,000 alongside their tuition fees to gain access.
‎
‎For many students, Campus Connect has become an essential academic tool. It supports online research, assignment submissions, virtual classes, access to digital learning materials, and communication with lecturers and classmates. Beyond academics, students also use the service for personal communication, entertainment, and staying connected with family and friends.
‎
‎”It really helps when I need to download lecture materials or submit assignments online. Without it, buying mobile data regularly can be expensive,” a 400 level student said.
‎
‎However, users say the service still faces several operational challenges.
‎
‎Many students have reported unstable internet connectivity, with frequent disconnections disrupting their activities. According to users, the network often becomes unavailable during rainfall and sometimes goes offline unexpectedly for several days before being restored.
‎
‎Some students also expressed frustration with the service’s operating hours, particularly during examination periods.
‎
‎Since Campus Connect shuts down at 12:00 a.m., students who study late into the night or pull all-night revision sessions are unable to access online resources when they may need them most.
‎
‎”During exams, many of us study throughout the night. The Wi-Fi going off at midnight makes it difficult to continue researching or accessing online materials,” another student explained.

‎Despite these concerns, many students acknowledge that Campus Connect remains a valuable initiative that has improved internet accessibility across the university.
‎
‎Students have called for improvements such as stronger network stability, quicker restoration during outages, better performance during adverse weather conditions, and extended operating hours during examination periods.
‎
‎As digital learning continues to play an increasingly important role in higher education, many believe enhancing Campus Connect’s reliability would further support teaching, learning, and research within the university community.
