CLAIM: A WhatsApp poster from Crescent University claim that a porter in the same university named Mr Lawal became head porter because the former head porter Mr Jimoh became an errand boy at the Bursary of the same University.
VERDICT: False! Mr Jimoh was promoted to a position at the Bursary which yet to be disclosed and Mr Lawal was appointed as the new head porter.
FULL TEXT
All male students of Crescent University used to know Mr Jimoh as the head porter even till the beginning of this ongoing semester. Until recently that news broke out there is a new head porter, there were different rumors as to what was going on but there was a particular whatsApp post that every students has been posting. The screenshot claims that the former head porter (Mr Jimoh) gave up his job to become an errand boy at the bursary of the same University and that led to Mr Lawal popularly known as LAWWY among the students of the University,been instated as the new head porter.
VERIFICATION
I met with the new porter on the 10th of January 2023 in respect to the ongoing rumours of how he got his new promotion and he made me understand that the ongoing news is wrong and no such thing as Mr Jimoh being an errand boy. He mentioned that Mr Jimoh was promoted due to his diligent work as the head porter to a higher position at the bursary of Crescent University.
He also agreed that no memo was given to the students on how he became the new head porter which is why students would take to social media to express what they thought had taken place. This does not justify spreading of rumors still and most students had also reposted this same news without fact checking its validity.
CONCLUSION
The former head porter is not an errand boy at the bursar but was promoted to a new position and his former position was vacant. This led to the appointment of Mr Lawal to be the new head porter. So the claim is false.
