Crescent university first Sports Festival

Abeokuta, Ogun State – Crescent University, Abeokuta, has successfully commenced

its 2025/2026 Sports Festival, also known as the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, with an

exciting opening ceremony that brought together students, staff, and sports

enthusiasts. The festival officially began on 22 May 2026 and featured a colourful

parade by participating faculties, cultural displays, and the official declaration of the

games open by the university management.

The sports festival was organized to promote physical fitness, teamwork, discipline,

and healthy competition among students. Participants from different faculties

competed in various sporting events, including football, volleyball, basketball,

athletics, table tennis, badminton, and indoor games. The competition also provided

an opportunity for students to discover and showcase their sporting talents.

The opening football matches attracted a large number of students who filled the

university’s sports arena to support their faculties. Cheers, music, and chants from

supporters created a lively atmosphere throughout the competition, making the event

one of the most anticipated activities of the academic session.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, university officials encouraged students to

compete fairly and uphold the values of sportsmanship, respect, and discipline. They

noted that the Sports Festival is not only about winning trophies but also about

building friendships, encouraging unity, and promoting a healthy lifestyle among

members of the university community.

The festival also serves as a platform for identifying talented athletes who can

represent Crescent University in inter-university competitions across Nigeria.

Outstanding performers are expected to receive awards and recognition at the enStudents expressed excitement over the return of the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup,

describing it as an opportunity to relax from academic activities, socialize with

colleagues, and display their athletic abilities. Many supporters turned out in faculty

colours to cheer their teams throughout the competition.

The Crescent University Sports Festival continues to strengthen unity among students

while promoting excellence both in academics and sports. As the games progress,

participants remain determined to win honours for their respective faculties, making

the competition exciting and memorable for the entire university community.
